IBCA ALL-STATE -
TOP 15 SENIORS and Honorable Mention 2011
Fifteen seniors and 15 underclass boys basketball players have
been chosen first-team all-state by the Indiana Basketball Coaches
Association, boys all-state selection chairman David Wood of West
Lafayette announced Friday (March 25).
Also, 81 additional seniors were selected as honorable mention
all-state and 73 additional juniors, sophomores and freshmen were
recognized as honorable mention underclass all-state.
Darwin "Dee" Davis of Bloomington South and Cody Zeller of
Washington, whose teams will compete in Saturday's Class 4A and
Class 3A state championship games, respectively, headline the
Senior First Team.
Completing that list are Xavielle Brown of Fort Wayne Wayne,
Michael Chandler of Lawrence North, Rontray Chavis of Princeton,
Joe Crisman of Munster, Branden Dawson of Gary Wallace, Austin
Etherington of Hamilton Heights, Justin Gant of Terre Haute North,
Jonny Marlin of Center Grove, Nic Moore of Warsaw, Andrew
Smeathers of Center Grove, Eric Stutz of Castle, Marquis Teague of
Pike and Chris Whitehead of New Albany.
The IBCA all-state teams are selected in a process where
all IBCA-member head coaches have the opportunity to vote for top
players from schools on the traditional regional structure of the
non-class tournament format. A coach representing each of those 16
regional areas, plus six at-large representatives, then meet to
review those votes and finalize the selections. Wood is the
chairman of the boys all-state selection meeting.
