High School Basketball Players Of The Week Honored Through Pacers
Sports & Entertainment Sponsorship.
From Merrillville to Tell City, in the North and the South, and
from Winchester to Terre Haute in the East and the West, the
nominees rolled in for the Inaugural Indiana Pacer and Fever
Players of the Week. This new program began in January when Pacers
Sports and Entertainment became a primary sponsor of the Indiana
Basketball Coaches Association. Nominees were welcomed by IBCA
Special Projects Coordinator Pat Aikman, and were solicited from
IBCA coaches and media in the respective basketball communities
represented by IBCA members.
Particularly helpful in the first year of the recognition
program were our volunteer IBCA media observers Andy Amey, Terre
Haute Tribune-Star, Steve Hanlon, our eye in Northwest Indiana at
the Northwest Indiana Times; and Zach Spicer, Seymour Tribune.
Criteria included an outstanding performance in a game or games
during the week preceding Monday’s announcements on the IBCA
website, www.ibcacoaches.com .Other
nominations came from a few IBCA Board members, coaches, and some
radio and sports editors around the state and even Hall of Fame
director Roger Dickinson in New Castle. Aikman indicated he would
welcome clippings from papers who used the awards announcements,
which were sent out to the media and high school athletic
directors and IBCA board members. A special thanks goes to IBCA
webmaster Gene Milner in Greencastle for his frequent updates and
on-the-ball on-site magic.
As the IBCA Spring Newsletter goes to press, plans are now to
present Honor Certificates from the Pacers and Fever to the weekly
winners listed below. If you have questions or suggestions send
them to Pat. pat.aikman@hotmail.com).
